Survey Results Announcement

An online survey that was organized by friends and members of the group “Famagusta, Reconstruction and Revitalization” in an attempt to investigate the thoughts of the people of Famagusta on the issue of their return to the town has just been concluded.

The group “Famagusta, Reconstruction and Revitalization” would like to thank everyone who participated, shared or hosted the survey on their pages.  Over 800 replies were received and the results can be viewed at the link below (in Greek):

The first conclusions of the survey are the following:

  • If Famagusta is returned, 73% of those who participated would like to settle permanently in the town.  Another 24% answered “maybe” and therefore do not reject this idea.
  • 71% of those who participated believe that the house where they or their families lived until 1974 could satisfy their present day demands, if this is repaired.
  • 79% of those who participated believe that the image and character of the town must be preserved to a “very high” or a “high” degree.  Another 17% replied by selecting “moderate” degree.
  • 95% of those who participated believe that in the event that the town is returned, Greek and Turkish Cypriot Famagustians should cooperate on issues of mutual interest.

It is expected that the analysis of the results will provide additional insights and conclusions that could assist a constructive dialogue among the people of Famagusta on the issue of the return, reconstruction and revitalization of their town.
